Nancy Zarbock is one of Hunterdon County?s featured artists: ?From 17th century red ware, to 21st century porcelain, the struggle between form vs. function is constant?, said Nancy. The value that she brings to the process is her own interpretation. Nancy forms pots, and manipulates the clay as it dries. She uses stains rich in copper, iron, cobalt and silver. Her specialty is Raku Pottery. Raku is a form of Japanese pottery characterized by low firing temperatures and the removal of pieces from the kiln while still glowing hot. Raku is considered the traditional method for creating bowls for the Japanese tea ceremony.

One of Nancy?s raku chargers ?Autumn? has been featured in the book ?500 RAKU?, published by Lark. Her winning entry distinguishes itself with combination of glazes, and its application, on a large flat surface. The glazes used were raku, as well as, other non-traditional raku glazes. Their application was applied in a painterly manner, resulting in high luster with a multi-colored surface. Contact information: nzarbock@gmail.com
